Granda and David
I approached this painting with much trepidation --- it is from a photo I love of my maternal grandfather holding my brother. In the photo, they are in front of my grandfather's small airplane, and my grandfather (who is shown full-length in the photo) looks so distinguished. I love the image, but I was afraid I could not possibly do a good likeness of my grandfather. As it turns out, I think the likeness is decent (not perfect) of my grandfather, and not so great of my brother, who I wasn't worried about at all. :) But overall I'm not thrilled with the painting as a painting. I had originally painted the background all dark purple, but that didn't work because it was darker than any of the darks in the subjects. So I painted over the purple with light orange, but that didn't work because by that time the paint was so slooshy (technical term) there were brush marks everywhere and the shininess overwhelmed the subjects. So I wiped most of the background off with a paper towel. I think the effect is interesting, but I prefer a painted background. When this dries, I might make another attempt at the background. This is #27 in the 30-in-30 challenge and it is 6x6".
